BEEF Away Weekend at the End of the World, Cornwall

September 11, 2018

On a gloriously, sunny weekend in August, ten BEEF members (and 2 year old associate Alma) made our way down the M5 in convoy to Cornwall to the End of the World Garden for a weekend of exploring and experimenting, making and doing, eating and drinking, swimming and sunning.

Vicky Smith ran a Bolex workshop for the luddites amongst us and we each shot 6 seconds of film over the weekend. We hijacked a jellyfish, shared stories, ideas, and dreams, looked at maps, ate many culinary delights, and gathered as a musical improvisation ensemble with Marcy on the Saw, Eliza and Kathy on the wineglasses, Vicky on the sieve. Hoppo created a magical in-camera stream of (un)consciousness film from the weekend which we screened beside the campfire after a mega BBQ finished off with VEGAN marshmallows (what is the world coming to).

End of the World Garden is a unique and ambitious artist-led project. A two-acre forest garden site in Cornwall, cultivated over the last fifteen years by Paul Chaney. The project opened in 2016 as a platform for artist residencies, durational transdisciplinary research, and residential seminars exploring land use and post-capital futures. The site hosts a diverse programme of public events, practical workshops in off-grid living and ecology, and participatory art commissions.
